The engine valve in a car has the primary function of controlling the flow of gases into and out of the engine's cylinders. There are two main types of engine valves: the intake valve and the exhaust valve.
Intake Valve
The intake valve opens and closes to allow air and fuel mixture to enter the combustion chamber during the intake stroke. When the valve is open, the piston moves down, drawing in fresh air and fuel. The valve then closes to ensure that the mixture remains in the cylinder during the compression and power strokes.
Exhaust Valve
The exhaust valve opens to release the exhaust gases produced during combustion. This occurs during the exhaust stroke when the piston moves up. Opening the exhaust valve allows the burned gases to exit the cylinder and enter the exhaust system.
