Mercedes Sprinter Service Reset: Detailed Procedure

These steps are for resetting the Service A / Service B / ASSYST / ASSYST PLUS maintenance reminder after the service has already been completed. Mercedes-Benz service information says ASSYST tracks distance and time since the last service and shows the next service in the instrument cluster; it also warns that the reset should only be performed after the corresponding maintenance has been carried out, because resetting without doing the service can lead to vehicle damage and warranty issues.

The exact procedure depends on the Sprinter generation and dashboard type. Use the section that matches your vehicle.

Before You Start

Park the van safely, apply the parking brake, close the doors, and keep the engine off. Turn the ignition on only as instructed. Make sure the oil change and any required Service A or Service B work have actually been completed. Know the correct oil specification or oil quality used, because some Sprinter reset menus ask you to confirm the oil type.

This reset does not fix a check-engine light, AdBlue/DEF fault, brake-pad warning, or other diagnostic fault. It only resets the maintenance interval reminder.

Method 1: Sprinter Without Steering-Wheel Controls

Common on older W906-style clusters with M and 0 buttons on the instrument cluster.

1. Insert the key and switch the ignition ON. Do not start the engine.
2. Wait until the display shows the total mileage or total kilometers.
   If the service-overdue message appears first, wait until the display automatically returns to the total mileage/kilometer screen.

4. Press the M button repeatedly until the display shows a reset/oil option, such as:
   “rESEt .51 / rESEt .31”

6. Press and hold the 0 button for about 3 seconds.
7. Release the 0 button, then press it again to confirm.
8. Turn the ignition off, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on and check that the service reminder has reset.

Method 2: Older Sprinter With Steering-Wheel Controls

Common on many 2007–2018 W906 Sprinters.

1. Insert the key and switch the ignition ON. Do not start the engine.
2. Make sure the total mileage/kilometers are displayed.
   If not, use the steering-wheel system/menu selection button until the total mileage appears.
3. Use the steering-wheel scroll forward/back buttons until the display shows a message similar to:
   “Service scope x in xxx km”
   or
   “Service A/B in xxx miles.”
4. Press and hold the 0 button on the instrument cluster for about 30 seconds until you hear a beep.
5. Press the lower steering-wheel system/menu selection button once.
6. Use the steering-wheel scroll buttons until you see:
   “Service in xxx km”
   or the equivalent mileage message.
7. Press the 0 button on the instrument cluster.
   The display should show a menu such as “Carry out.”
8. Scroll to “Oil types.”
9. Use the + / − buttons to select the correct oil type or oil quality.
10. Confirm the selected oil type using the steering-wheel scroll/selection button.
11. Press and hold the 0 button for about 3 seconds until the display shows:
    “Service confirmed.”
12. Turn the ignition off, then turn it back on to verify that the next service interval is displayed.

Method 3: Alternate Older-Cluster Procedure Showing “Confirm Complete Service”

Some Sprinters with steering-wheel buttons use slightly different wording.

1. Turn the key to ignition position II.
2. Press the steering-wheel Menu button until the mileage display appears.
3. Press the Up arrow until you see:
   “Service A in xxx miles”
   or
   “Service B in xxx miles.”
4. Press and hold the small reset / 0 button on the side of the instrument cluster until you hear a beep.
5. Press the steering-wheel Menu button again.
6. Press the Up arrow until you see:
   “Confirm Complete Service.”
7. Press and hold the instrument-cluster reset button for about 3 seconds to confirm.
8. Switch the ignition off and back on to check that the reminder has reset.

Method 4: 2019+ / VS30 / W907 / W910 / MBUX-Style Sprinter With ASSYST PLUS

For newer Sprinters, the reset is usually done through the hidden service menu and ASSYST PLUS. Mercedes-Benz fleet maintenance information notes that ASSYST PLUS is available starting with MY19 vehicles and takes usage factors into account for maintenance timing.

1. Sit in the driver’s seat and close the doors.
2. Press the Start/Stop button once without pressing the brake pedal, or turn the key to the first ignition position.
   The engine should remain off.
3. Use the steering-wheel controls to display the Trip / odometer / mileage screen.
4. Press and hold the Back button on the steering wheel for about 3–5 seconds.
5. While still holding Back, press and hold the OK / center touchpad / selection button until the hidden menu appears.
   On some versions, holding Back + OK together for about 5–10 seconds opens the menu.
6. Select ASSYST PLUS.
7. If the display asks you to switch the ignition on, press the Start/Stop button once more without pressing the brake pedal.
8. Enter Full Service.
9. Select Confirm Service or Confirm Full Service.
10. Choose the correct oil grade or oil quality, if the menu asks for it.
11. Select Yes or Confirm.
12. Wait for a message such as:
    “Full service carried out”
    “Service confirmed”
    or similar.
13. Switch the ignition off, wait a few seconds, then switch it back on and verify that the service interval has reset.

If You Selected the Wrong Oil Type

Do not ignore a wrong oil-quality selection. For older Sprinters without steering-wheel controls, Mercedes-Benz’s reset guide gives a correction path:

1. Switch the ignition off, then back on.
2. Press and hold 0 for about 30 seconds until a beep sounds.
3. Press M until “rESEt StoP” appears with the oil-can symbol.
4. Press 0 for about 3 seconds, release it, then press it again.
5. Repeat the normal reset procedure and select the correct oil type.

For steering-wheel-control vehicles, the official guide refers to a correction flow using “Full Service back” before repeating the service reset. If you are unsure which oil type was selected or the service scope looks wrong, have it corrected with Mercedes Xentry or another capable Mercedes diagnostic tool.

How to Confirm the Reset Worked

After completing the reset:

1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Wait 10–15 seconds.
3. Turn the ignition back on.
4. Go to the service display.
5. Confirm that the display now shows the next service distance or time, instead of “Service due” or “Service exceeded.”

If the service reminder still appears, repeat the method slowly from the odometer screen. The most common reasons the reset fails are being on the wrong screen, not holding the button long enough, low battery voltage, or using a procedure for a different dashboard type.
