Mercedes Key Not Working – Ignition Reset Guide: If your Mercedes key is not working in the ignition, it may be due to a key synchronization issue, dead battery, or electronic steering lock (ESL) fault. Here’s how to troubleshoot and attempt an ignition reset.

1. Check the Key Battery
   Remove the key from its casing and replace the battery with a new one (usually CR2025 or CR2032). Weak key battery may prevent communication with the vehicle.

2. Try a Spare Key
   If you have a second key, try using it. If the spare works, your original key may be faulty and needs replacement or reprogramming.

3. Reset the Ignition System

   • Sit in the driver’s seat and ensure the car is in Park.

   • Insert the key into the ignition (or push it into the key slot if it’s a smart key).

   • Leave it in this position for about 10 minutes.

6. Use a Diagnostic Tool
   If the above steps don’t help, use a diagnostic scanner to check for fault codes in the EIS (Electronic Ignition Switch), ESL, or key module.

7. When to Seek Help
   If both keys fail or the ignition remains unresponsive, contact a certified Mercedes-Benz technician. You may need EIS/ESL repair or a new programmed key.
