What is Pre-Safe Mode?
Pre-Safe is a safety system in Mercedes-Benz vehicles that prepares the car and occupants for a potential collision. It may tighten seat belts, close windows, and adjust seat positions. After activation, the system may stay on or trigger warning messages until it's reset or the issue is resolved.
Common Causes for Pre-Safe Warnings:
-
Faulty seat belt sensor
-
Disconnected or loose seat wiring
-
Low battery voltage
-
After an accident or airbag deployment
-
Fault in radar or control modules
Steps to Reset Pre-Safe Mode:
-
Turn Off the Engine
Park the vehicle safely and switch off the ignition.
-
Check for Visible Issues
Inspect seat belts, sensors, and battery. Make sure all doors are closed, and the seat belts are properly latched.
-
Disconnect the Battery (Optional but Recommended for Full Reset)

Scan and Clear Fault Codes Using a Diagnostic Tool (OBD2)
-
Plug in an OBD2 scanner that supports Mercedes-Benz (iCarsoft MB II, Autel, etc.).
-
Turn the ignition to ON (engine can stay off).
-
Read fault codes related to the airbag (SRS) or Pre-Safe system.
-
Repair the underlying issue if needed.
-
Use the scanner to clear the fault codes.
-
Drive the Vehicle
Sometimes the Pre-Safe warning disappears after driving a short distance if there are no persistent faults.
-
Visit a Mercedes-Benz Service Center
If the warning persists or if you had an accident, visit a dealer or certified technician. They may need to reprogram or replace affected modules.
Note:
Resetting the Pre-Safe system without fixing the root cause may only provide a temporary solution. Always address the actual fault for long-term safety.
