How to reset brake fluid light BMW

If you've recently changed or topped up your brake fluid but the brake fluid warning light is still on, you may need to manually reset the system. Here's how to do it.

Preparation

  • Make sure the brake fluid has actually been changed.

  • Close the hood securely.

  • Sit in the driver’s seat and do not start the engine.

  • Ensure all doors are closed.

🔁 How to reset brake fluid light BMW: Reset Procedure (Applies to Most BMWs from E90, F30, G30, etc.)

1. Insert the key fob (if applicable) or press the Start button once (no brake pedal)

  • This puts the car in accessory mode.

2. Wait for all dashboard lights to come on

  • Do not start the engine.

3. Press and hold the trip reset button (small button near the speedometer)

  • Hold it for about 10 seconds until a yellow triangle appears and you see a service menu.

4. Use the button to scroll through service items

  • Find the brake fluid icon or label (often a small reservoir icon or it says “Brake Fluid” with a due date).

5. Press and hold the button again when brake fluid is selected

  • It will ask if you want to "Reset?".

6. Press and hold again to confirm reset

  • Wait a few seconds. It will say “Reset Successful” or similar.

💡 Notes:

  • If the reset does not work, your BMW might require a diagnostic tool (e.g., BMW ISTA, Foxwell NT510, or Autel) to reset the brake fluid service interval.

  • A persistent warning light might also indicate low brake fluid, a faulty sensor, or air in the system—make sure these are ruled out.
