How to Reset The Idrive On BMW

A simple iDrive restart usually solves temporary software problems. A factory reset should only be performed when necessary because it removes stored settings and user data. Restart iDrive without deleting anything
  1. Park the BMW safely and switch on the ignition/iDrive.
  2. Press and hold the audio volume/power knob.
  3. How to Reset The Idrive On BMW: Keep holding—even when the screen turns black—until the system begins restarting. This commonly takes around 30 seconds, but BMW advises holding it for up to 70 seconds, depending on the iDrive version.
  4. Release the knob and allow iDrive to load fully before driving.

Full factory reset

This erases saved phones, profiles, navigation destinations and personal settings:

CAR → Settings → General settings → Reset vehicle data

The vehicle should be stationary, with the drive-ready state switched off and the keys inside. Newer BMWs may also be removed from your BMW ID/My BMW app.

For BMW Operating System 9, BMW additionally recommends going to Apps → ConnectedDrive Store → Manage → Update all, then performing the volume-button reboot while parked.
