BMW X5 Oil Reset: How to

The oil-service reminder should only be reset after the engine oil and oil filter have been replaced. Resetting the reminder does not change the oil level, repair an engine problem, or clear a genuine low-oil warning.

The exact procedure depends on the model year and instrument cluster fitted to the vehicle.

If the Reset Does Not Work

Make sure the engine is off and the brake pedal is not being pressed. The button may need to be held for 10 seconds or longer before the service menu appears.

A message such as “Reset Impossible” or “Reset Unsuccessful” may indicate that the service interval is not ready to be reset, the wrong maintenance item was selected, the battery voltage is low, or the vehicle has a fault stored in the CBS maintenance system.

Do not accidentally reset other items such as the front brake pads, rear brake pads, brake fluid, or vehicle inspection. Each maintenance item is recorded separately.

Because the procedure can vary slightly depending on the production year, instrument cluster, and software version, consult the vehicle’s owner’s manual or use the VIN to confirm the correct procedure for your specific BMW X5.
