BMW Tire Pressure Reset: Simple steps

Before resetting, park the vehicle on a level surface, allow the tires to cool for at least three hours, check and adjust all tires (including the monitored spare tire if equipped) to the recommended cold-tire pressures shown on the driver’s door label, close all doors, start the engine while keeping the vehicle stationary, and ensure no tire is damaged, leaking, or significantly underinflated.

BMW Models with iDrive 7 or iDrive 8

1. Reset BMW Tyre Pressure: From the center display, open CAR or Vehicle Apps.
2. Select Vehicle Status.
3. Select Tire Pressure Monitor or Tire Pressure Control.
4. Confirm that the displayed tire pressures are appropriate.
5. Select Tire Settings.
6. Confirm the correct tire type, tire size, or current tire configuration when prompted.
7. Select Perform Reset, Reset Tire Pressure, or Save Tire Settings.
8. Confirm the reset.
9. Wait until the screen shows that the reset or initialization has started.
10. Begin driving normally.
11. Maintain a speed above approximately 20 mph or 30 km/h whenever road conditions allow.
12. Continue driving until the display shows that the tire-pressure reset is complete.
13. The process may take several minutes and can require 10–20 minutes of continuous driving.
14. After completion, open Vehicle Status again and confirm that the tire-pressure warning has disappeared.

BMW Models with iDrive 5 or iDrive 6

1. Start the engine and leave the vehicle stationary.
2. Tyre Pressure Reset BMW: Press the MENU button near the iDrive controller.
3. Select My Vehicle.
4. Select Vehicle Status.
5. Select Tire Pressure Monitor or Tire Pressure Control.
6. Select Perform Reset.
7. Select Yes or Confirm.
8. Wait for the display to indicate that the reset has started.
9. Drive the vehicle normally.
10. Continue driving at varying speeds until the initialization reaches 100% or the completion message appears.
11. Stop the vehicle safely after completion.
12. Check the tire-pressure screen and verify that no warning remains.

Older BMW Models with CIC or Earlier iDrive

1. Start the engine.
2. Press the MENU button.
3. Select Vehicle Info.
4. Select Vehicle Status.
5. Select Reset under the tire-pressure section.
6. Confirm by selecting Yes.
7. Wait for the display to show Resetting, Initializing, or a similar message.
8. Drive the vehicle for approximately 10–20 minutes.
9. Continue driving until the confirmation message appears or the warning light switches off.
10. Recheck the system after parking.

BMW Models Without iDrive

1. Start the engine and keep the vehicle parked.
2. Use the button on the end of the turn-signal stalk to scroll through the instrument-cluster menu.
3. Continue scrolling until the tire-pressure symbol or RESET appears.
4. Press the button briefly to select the tire-pressure reset function.
5. Press and hold the button until RESET appears with a check mark or the warning symbol begins flashing.
6. Release the button.
7. Begin driving.
8. Continue driving normally until the warning light switches off or the system confirms initialization.
9. Park safely and restart the vehicle to confirm that the reset was completed.

When the Reset Does Not Complete

1. Stop the vehicle in a safe location.
2. Recheck the pressure in all four tires with an accurate pressure gauge.
3. Correct any tire that does not match the driver-door pressure label.
4. Restart the engine.
5. Repeat the complete reset procedure.
6. Drive continuously for at least 15–20 minutes.
7. If the warning remains, inspect the tires for punctures, valve leaks, damaged wheels, or incorrect tire installation.
8. If the system displays TPM Malfunction, RDC Malfunction, or Tire Pressure Monitor Malfunction, have the TPMS sensors and system diagnosed.
