The battery location in the BMW X5 depends slightly on the generation and configuration, but in most modern models (especially E70, F15, and G05), BMW uses a rear-mounted battery layout for better weight distribution and performance balance.

Main 12V Battery Location

In most BMW X5 models, the main 12V battery is located in the rear cargo area (trunk).

To access it:

1. Open the tailgate.
2. Lift the trunk floor panel (cargo floor cover).
3. You will find the battery installed on the right-hand side under a protective cover.
4. The battery is secured in a bracket and usually covered with a plastic housing for safety.

Why BMW Places the Battery in the Rear

BMW does not place the main battery in the engine bay like many vehicles. Instead, it is moved to the rear for several reasons:

This auxiliary battery is usually located:

• In the engine bay, or
• Under the trunk floor near the main battery area (depending on model year and specification)

• The rear battery is still a standard 12V system battery (not hybrid battery).
